I was reading todays news from the Internet and noticed a story about the Virginia Tech incident. Some students in the US are campaigning for the right to carry hidden weapons for self defence.
In Finland we do have our guns and we have a lot of them. According to some reports only the USA and Oman are countries that have more guns per capita than we have. So considering all matters it's a huge amount of guns, even when we a population of only 5,3 million people.
The difference between the US I know form the media and news is that in the US it is OK to fire a gun for self defence. It's OK if you kill a person, if you were first attacked. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is the impression that I have. Here we don't have a such mentality. Actually if you fire a gun on somebody, you are always most likely to get the blame. Not all of it of course but some for acting with too much force. Meaning that the state of mind is totally different. It is never OK to fire a gun towards a human being. That's what i think is missing in the US gun culture and it should be changed.
