I bought the new AC/DC album on thursday and have now listened it through few times and I'm not that impressed with it. The previous Stiff Upper Lip was tremendously good, with true gems like the Stiff Upper Lip, House of Jazz and Safe in New York City. This latest Black Ice is more like medium well done steak. It is still good, but clearly not as good as medium rare steak.
The Black Ice album is a very steady musical journey, something you can safely put on in your ipod when driving a long distance. It rolls forward and you don't have to be afraid of speeding, as the tunes don't really encourage you to push down the pedal. None of the tracks really live up to the million volt ZAP!, as they are more like a steady DC current from your flashlight battery.
Am I disapointed that my new AC/DC album is slightly over cooked? Actually I am a bit, the steak has lost it's best flavour and you end up realising that the gravy might be the best part of the beautifully prepared dinner.
